How to download images from Google Image Search using Bulk Image Downloader Print E-mail

IMPORTANT: BID will only work correctly with Google Image Search if you have Internet Explorer 9 or better installed on your PC.
BID will not work correctly with Google Image Search if you're using Windows XP as XP only supports Internet Explorer 8 and below.

The reason for this is that Google image search generates a "basic" image search results page if it detects you are using IE 8 or below. This "basic" page does not include information about the image's location so BID is not able to extract this information. If you're an XP user we recommend you try using bing image search as an alternative.

Google Image Search is an image search service provided by Google. It is simple to use and has many advanced search tools to help you find exactly the images you're looking for. Apart from just finding images related to the search term, you can also specify the required size, colour, usage rights and more using the Google Advanced Image Search.

To download an image from the search results you first have to click on the link to be taken to the web page containing the image. You then have to right click on the image and select 'Save image as' to save it to your hard drive. Downloading just a few images this way is easy enough but it quickly becomes very time consuming to download larger numbers.

Bulk Image Downloader makes downloading images from Google Image Search very quick and easy. Please follow the step by step guide below:

Google image search is also very handy to locate web galleries containing the types of image you're interested in. BID can be used to download images from these galleries too of course.

NB: Please respect the copyright of others. You are responsible for making use of any images downloaded via Google image search in compliance with the image owners' requirements or restrictions, if any.

A Step by Step Guide to Downloading Images from Google Image Search

1. Perform a search using Google Image Search or Google Advanced Image Search . Google will display the first page of results in your web browser.

2. Right click inside the web page and select "Open current page with BID". (FireFox users please install the BID FireFox extension to enable browser integration, Google Chrome users please install the BID Chrome extension). BID integrates automatically with Internet Explorer and Opera.

3. BID will open and begin downloading the search results. To stop BID from loading multiple pages click on the Cancel button or press Esc while it's downloading.

4. Once all the results have been downloaded BID will scan them for thumbnailed links and display them. As full sized images are desired make sure that the BID Filter is set to 'Thumbnailed images only' (press Alt+1). If the filter is set to 'Embedded images only' then BID will download the thumbnails on the pages instead of the full sized images on the linked pages.

5. You can now browse through the images on the list. Click on the view buttons to display the results as a list or as thumbnails of different size.

6. When browsing the results, you can double click on an image item in the detailed view to view the thumbnail image. Double click on thumbnailed images to view the full sized images. Delete the images you don't wish to download from the list by selecting them and pressing the Delete key. Select multiple images by shift and/or control clicking on the images.

7. Once you're satisfied with the results click on the 'Download' button (or press F9) to begin downloading the images. The images will be saved to the specified "download to" folder, optionally within a new subfolder named after the current page title (if the 'save to web page title subfolder' option is enabled). To download just the selected images, hold down the shift key while clicking the download button (or press shift+F9).
